AI Scalp Grader Used in Clinical Study by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital Researchers

Aram Huvis is pleased to share that the AI Scalp Grader Hair & Scalp Analyzer was used in a clinical study conducted by a team of dermatology researchers at Seoul National University College of Medicine and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, including Chang-Hun Huh, Jung Im Na, and Bo Ri Kim.

Published in Dermatologic Therapy in 2026, the prospective study followed 23 participants over four weeks to evaluate changes in scalp condition after the daily use of a moisturizer containing celastrol and Cichorium intybus root extract.

During the study, researchers used the AI Scalp Grader camera to capture 60× magnified images from five standardized scalp regions. The images were then analyzed using SPI-AI, an AI-based scalp assessment system that evaluates dryness, oiliness, erythema, folliculitis, and dandruff.
The study reported significant improvements in the overall SPI-AI score, particularly in erythema and folliculitis, together with improvements in participant-reported symptoms. The findings also highlighted the potential of AI-based image analysis as a sensitive and objective tool for evaluating scalp conditions in clinical research.
